Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar city tour

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar. On arrival, you are welcomed by a representative from Enjoy Mongolia Travel and are transferred to your hotel. City sightseeing tour including a visit Central square, where all central departments including Government house and Chinggis khaan’s statue situated on. Visit to Gandantegchilen monastery. Visit to Zaisan Hill War Memorial. Next to the memorial, there is a Buddha garden and statue. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 2 Visit to Temples in Ulaanbaatar

Visit to the Bogd Khan palace museum. Then visit to the Choijin Lama temple museum. Visiting other optional temples and Buddhist sites in Ulaanbaatar.  

Day 3 Erdenehamba Monastery 

Drive out Ulaanbaatar to Khugnu Khan mountain. There is a Buddhist temple built in later time beside old temple ruin. It is located in a beautiful mountain. Explore the area and ruin. Overnight here in tents or ger camps also available.

Day 4 Kharakhorum city and Erdenezuu Monastery

Drive to Kharakhorum city. Visit Erdenezuu monastery founded in 1586 by Avtai Sain Khan who was the desendant of Chinggis khan golden lineage. According to the historical resources, there were 62 temples inside the wall of Erdenezuu in 1872. During the period of the time 1930s, it was twice severely affected and its unique properties and relics were damaged. Most of the temples were destroyed that time, and Erdenezuu monastery was taken under the State Protection. It was opened as museum in 1965. Explore the Kharakhorum city and visit to the Ogodei Khan palace ruins and much more. Overnight here in ger camp or tents in the bank of Orkhon River.

Day 5 Tuvkhun hermitage monastery 

Drive to Shanh monastery, founded in 1647 on the occasion of 13th birthday of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar, who was famous social and religious figure of Mongolia. It was founded “the sanctuary place of Buddhist saint monk”. Then, to Tuvkhun hermitage monastery, located on a stage on the top of the Tuvkhun Shireet Mountain elevated in 2300 m above sea level. It was sacramental place used for meditation creative works. It was the hermitage monastery including the studio of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar, who founded the Mongol school of religious arts and minted Buddhas, which are now highly respected and recognized worldwide. Overnight in the bank of Orkhon River.

Day 6 Back to Ulaanbaatar

Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. It takeks whole day including stops.

Day 7 Departure

Day 2 Flight to Khovd

Fly to the Khovd city. (two and a half hour flight). Visit the monuments of Galdanboshigt Khaan and Ard Ayush. Visit the local Museum which includes some rare artifacts such as ethnic clothes, rare stones, stuffed animals, photos and exhibitions of Manchu. On to Khar Us lake, then to Ishgen tolgoin rock painting, Free time. Sleep in tents or with the herdsman family.

Day 3 Stay with nomads

The Nomadic tour will start early after breakfast. You will see how to take down a ger, how to bundle and load the ger’s furniture on the back of a camel, and many other customs of nomadic life. You will be able to ride a horse or a camel and will be able to take part the nomadic families move. This family will move about 25km’s by camel. Sleep in the tents.

Day 4 Stay with nomads

The nomadic tour will continue. Opportunity to drive livestock and gallop on the steppe. Today the family will move about 40 km. There are high mountains and beautiful valleys. Sleep in tents.

Day 5 Gurvan Tsenkher caves

Get up early to see how a nomad starts the day. Breakfast. From here we will drive back and arrive to Mankhan Sum centre and on to Gurvan Tsenkher caves that have Palaeanthropic vestiges. Going to Khovd city and sleep in a tourist camp or hotel.

Day 6 Tsambaragav snow capped mountain

On to Tsambagarav mountain. From here to Tolbo lake where we will camp. We will visit a Khazakh family and see their national clothes and unique musical instrument. Also you will be introduced how to hunt using eagles. Dinner. We will sleep in tents.

Day 7 Ulgii city

Breakfast and on to Ulgii city. Visit the local museum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag. The museum gives an excellent overview of khazakh culture and the geography of the Bayan-Ulgii aimag. Sleep in a hotel.

Day 8 Along Khovd River

We will drive along the Khovd river which will lead us to Achit lake. We will camp on the shore of Uureg lake.

Day 9 Ulaangom city 

On to Ulaangom town. Visit the local museum. Rest and sleep in a hotel.

Day 10 Uvs Lake

We will drive to Uvs lake which is the biggest lake in Mongolia, On to Boorog Deliin sands. Baruunturuun Sum centre. Overnight in tents.

Day 11 Zavkhan River

Drive to Tsagaan Khairkhan sum centre and then on to Hyargas lake. Then we will drive along the north shore of the Hyargas lake for 40 km before arriving at the Har Termes mineral spring and mud therapy centre. There you can also see the Khan Khukhii range in a remote. From here to the Zavkhan river. We will camp on its sandy banks. This sand is famous in Mongolia.

Day 12 Khovd city

We will drive to Dorgon sum centre. From here Argalant Mountain, canyon of Chono Kharaikh river and the hydroelectric power station which is being built (28 km). Return back to Dorgon Sum centre and have lunch on the north shore of Khar - Us lake where you can see a variety of birds and brush. We will drive to Khovd town and on the way we will pass the Khar bogoch ovoo historical site, Hovd river, Buyant Sum centre, and the Chandmani Khar Uzuuriin Paleolithic rock painting site. We will sleep in a hotel or a tourist camp.

Day 13 Flight to Ulaanbaatar

Free time. Fly back to UB at midday. Afternoon, shopping and national folk performance. Overnight in hotel. 

Day 14 Departure

Golden Eagle Festival Tour


Key destination: Western Mongolia, Bayan-Ulgii province, Kazakh people, eagle hunters, horse riding, Kazakh culture 
Tour length: 7 nights and 8 days.
Tour description: Golden Eagle Festival is held annually in the western region.  Kazakh eagle hunters celebrate their heritage and compete to catch small animals with specially trained golden eagles, showing off the skills both of the birds and their trainers.

4th to 5th Oct   Go to Festival with Eagle-hunters on horseback

Riding Mongolian horse, you go side by side with eagle-hunter to hunt fox, rabbit, and may be wolf. So you have chance to have part in this unique hunting of Altai Kazakh people. Enjoy remote mountain country. You can try to hold the golden eagle on your hand and in photo.

6th -7th Oct Golden Eagle Festival

Meet the Kazakh Eagle-hunters. Rodeo of eagle-hunting. We will have a good opportunity to see these magnificent birds close. Many interesting events will be held for photographers and adventurers. Eagle-hunters from around regions gather to test their finely trained birds in singular contests of speed and agility in these few days. During the festival we also see some Kazakh Traditional Horse Games like “BushKushi” (Try to take out from each other the goat skin on horseback),”Kiss woman on horseback”, ”Pick up coins from the land on horseback” and others. In the evening we enjoy to have the Kazakh Concert with some traditional songs and music.

8th Oct Flight to UB

Transfer to the airport and fly to Ulaanbaatar.

12 July Baga Gazar Stones and Mandalgobi city

The tour will start early from Ulaanbaatar city. On the way pass Zorgolkhairkhan mountain. Then we will drive to Baga Gazriin Chuluu (Small land stone) stones. There are small cave, spring and interesting natural formation. We will drive to Mandalgobi town and stop at small hotel. Overnight in the hotel.

13 July Canyon of the Eagle’s Mouth

Continue tour to the Dalanzadgad city. We will introduce Dalanzadgad city and visit to local museum. Drive to the Canyon of the Eagle’s Mouth. Overnight in tents.

14 July Bayanzag (Flaming Cliff)

Driving through the Gobi Desert and visit to Bayanzag. Drive further to Saikhan Ovoo soum. There is a Buddhist monastery Ongi. Overnight in tents.

15 July To Kharakhorum city

Onward travel to Kharakhorum city-ancient capital city of Mongolia. Visit Shanh Hiid Monastery. Arrive at the ger camp. Overnight in the camp.

16 July Erdenezuu Monastery

Free day in Kharakhorum. Visit to the Erdenezuu Monastery – the first and biggest Buddhist center built in the 13th century. There are many other historical exhibitions in this village.

17 July Zayan Gegeenii Huree Monastery

Early morning Continue for Tsetserleg (means “beautiful flower garden”), ventral town of Arkhangai province, surrounded by natural beauty and spectacular scenery of mountains, cliffs, rapid rivers and quiet lakes. Visit to Zayan Gegeenii Huree Monastery built in the 16th century. It is a local museum too. We will camp on the bank of Tamir River. Overnight in tents.

18 July Khorgo dormant volcano crater

We move towards Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan. Drive up to the Horgo Uul, a dormant volcano crater, to witness amazing formations of lava rocks. The world’s only basalt ger to be pictured. Stay in ger camp at the lake shore of Terkhiin Tsagaan.

19 July Horse riding

Free day. Horse riding around the lake. Visit to the Yellow dog’s cave. Explore the Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake National Park. Overnight in the camp.

20 July Tsenkher hot spa

Today we will drive for 200 km and camp around the Tsenkher hot spa or little further in wilderness area. Overnight in tents.

21 July  Ogii Lake and Khustai National Park with wild horses

Ogii lake, that is a wonderful place for birdlife-cranes and ducks, to name just a few species, migrate to the area around late April. On to Khustai Range national park where prezivalski horses are. Overnight here is good for see the wild horses.

22 July Back to Ulaanbaatar. Overnight in a hotel

23 July Departure from UB
